North Carolina General Assembly member Larry Womble was listed in critical condition following a two-vehicle, head-on accident in Winston-Salem. The driver of the other vehicle, 54-year-old David Carmichael, was pronounced dead at the scene of the North Carolina car accident.
According to local news sources, the 70-year-old Democrat representing Forsyth was driving along Reynolds Park Road on Friday night when he collided with an oncoming car driven by David Carmichael, a family friend of the politician and nearby resident. While it is not clear what caused the accident, neighbors say the area has been the site of other serious accidents, some caused by a combination of speed and the road’s sharp curves.
Womble was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he soon underwent surgery related to his injuries. Doctors say that while they are unsure of whether he will suffer permanent injuries, his condition is improving.
North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis, a Republican from Mecklenburg, stated that the two families of the victims were in his thoughts and the thoughts of the other members of the assembly. Both families are also in the thoughts of the personal injury attorneys at Brent Adams & Associates.
