Q Do I have to have my car repaired at the insurance company’s body shop?
No, it is your car that has been damaged in a motor vehicle collision and you and you alone have the right to decide if and where your car will be repaired.
The insurance company has no right to tell you or dictate to you where you should have your car repaired. In North Carolina, there is a specific statute which prohibits insurance companies from trying to direct where you should have your car repaired.
Many insurance companies try to have wreck victims take their car to their “blue ribbon shops” or some other shops they designate. There is nothing necessarily wrong with taking your car to one of these blue ribbon shops. However, you do not have to do so.
The important thing is that you are satisfied with the body shop that repairs your vehicle.
