Zebulon Woman Killed In Crash

On August 19, a woman from Zebulon died of the personal injuries she suffered when her car, which was parked on the shoulder of U.S. 64 in Franklin County, was struck by another vehicle.

Sgt. R.P. Hargrove of the N.C. Highway Patrol said that 27-year-old Jessica Dixon was westbound on U.S. 64 and had pulled over onto the shoulder of the road. At approximately 7 a.m., a car driven by 64-year-old Rocky Mount resident Ronald Bruce Hicks, collided with her vehicle.

Dixon’s husband, Donald Dixon, was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle at the time of the crash. Hargrove said he apparently became distraught at his wife’s death and ran into the roadway. He had to be subdued with a taser by a trooper.

Donald Dixon received ambulance transport to the hospital, but Hargrove did not know if he had sustained injuries.

Police charged Hicks with felony death by motor vehicle. He was uninjured in the crash.
