
Zebulon police chief Timothy P. Hayworth said that a pedestrian suffered fatal personal injuries after being struck early on the morning of December 6 by a driver who went home after the collision and later returned in a different vehicle.
Police responded to the scene on West Gannon Avenue around 5:45 a.m.
The pedestrian was identified as 61-year-old Zebulon resident Ronnie Edwards. He was struck by a 2006 Dodge Durango driven by 50-year-old Zebulon resident Donald Bridges, police said.
Police said that the collision occurred at about 5:15 a.m., but Bridges left the scene and later returned in another vehicle. Police said he went to a nearby gas station and called 911.
Police said that Bridges was in custody and charges are pending.
