Wrecks Litter I-40 On July 29

On July 29, approximately 50 cars were involved in a series of accidents on westbound Interstate 40, some of which caused personal injuries and all of which caused massive delays during rush hour.

According to Sgt. Jorge Brewer of the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, the two biggest crashes took place at Miami Boulevard, exit 281, and Davis Drive, exit 280. In those pileups, 15 and 11 cars were involved, though he was unable to confirm which pileup occurred at which location.

Those wrecks and light rain contributed to several smaller two-vehicle crashes as well.

While some injuries occurred, none of them were serious and no cars involved were severely damaged, despite the size of the crashes.
