The man selected to replace a Bladen County Commissioner who died in February suffered fatal personal injuries in a car crash on the morning of March 11.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., Stanley Richardson and his mother Beulah were killed in a crash at the intersection of N.C. 87 and Cromartie Road in Elizabethtown.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol reported that Richardson pulled into the path of an 18-wheeler just a few hundred yards from his home.
Richardson was a pastor and an administrator at the Bladen County Board of Education. He had just been appointed to the County Commission and would have filled the seat previously held by Margaret Lewis-Moore, who died of pneumonia in February.
