A man from Orange County, Texas who suffered personal injuries when his hand was burned by acid has filed suit against the company where he was working with the incident occurred.

According to the suit he filed on January 16 in Texas’ Jefferson County District Court, Allan Gaspard was working on a line carrying hydrofluoric acid at the Valero Energy Corp. Port Arthur Refinery when a valve malfunctioned, causing the acid to be released.

The suit says that Gaspard’s hand was severely burned by the acid.

Gaspard alleges that the injury caused him past and future physical pain, mental anguish, and physical impairment. He also claims to have suffered lost wages, lost earning capacity, and lost consortium in addition to incurring medical expenses.

The suit alleges negligence on the part of Valero for breaching its duty of care by failing to make a hazardous condition reasonably safe and failing to warn Gaspard of the existence of the dangerous condition.

Gaspard seeks unspecified damages.
