Woman Killed While Standing On Holly Ridge Highway

Authorities are trying to determine why a woman who suffered fatal personal injuries on December 31 was standing on one of the main highways along the coast of North Carolina.

Troopers said that Carolina Cromer was discovered dead at approximately 10 p.m. on U.S. 17 in Holly Ridge. According to her mother, she was visiting friends in the area.

According to authorities, several motorists contacted police to report a woman standing in the northbound lanes of the four-lane highway before Cromer’s body was located.

The incident has been ruled a hit-and-run by troopers, who are still searching for the vehicle that struck the woman and determine why she was standing in the road on New Year’s Eve.

Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports.
