Woman Killed In Granville County Crash

On the morning of January 14, a tractor-trailer collided with a car along N.C. Highway 56 in Granville County, resulting in one person suffering fatal personal injuries.

The crash occurred shortly before daybreak near the community of Wilton, somewhere just west of N.C. Highway 96.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the car, 54-year-old Valerie Hyers, crossed the center line and the truck collided head-on with her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Images from WTVD’s news helicopter showed the truck lying on its side next to the highway and firefighters using the Jaws of Life to extract the occupants of the car from the wreckage.

Some of the truck’s wheels were shorn off by the impact and the diesel tanks appeared to have ruptured, as there was a long stain along the pavement that ended at the point where the truck came to rest.

The truck’s driver received transport to Granville Medical Center for treatment for minor injuries.

The truck appeared to belong to a Virginia company that distributes fiberglass insulation and other building products. However, that information had not yet been confirmed.
