Woman Killed By Tire From Crashing NHRA Dragster

On February 21, a woman died of the personal injuries she suffered when she was struck by a tire from a crashing dragster at the NHRA Arizona Nationals Arizona Nationals in Chandler, Arizona.

The victim was watching a first-round Top Fuel run at Firebird International Raceway when a dragster driven by Antron Brown and sponsored by Matco Tools and the U.S. Army went out of control and its left rear wheel came off.

According to Alia Maisonet, a spokeswoman for the Gila River Indian Community, the woman received air transport to a hospital for treatment, but later died. Gila River emergency personnel were among the first to respond to the scene.

Maisonet said she did not know the name or hometown of the woman who died.
