Woman Files Suit After Tripping On Leaves At Day Care While Picking Up Grandchild

A woman has filed a personal injury suit against an Alton, Illinois day care, alleging that an accumulation of wet leaves caused her to fall as she was picking up her grandchild from the daycare.

According to the suit she filed against Alton Community Unit School District No. 11 and Alton Day Care in Illinois’ Madison County Circuit Court on March 26, Susan Crawford was picking up her grandchild from the day care on March 31, 2008 at approximately 4:30 p.m. when she tripped over an uneven surface while exiting the building.

Crawford claims the incident caused her to suffer injuries to her neck, back, right shoulder, elbow, and right hip. She also claims she experienced pain, incurred medical costs, and lost sums of money she would have been able to obtain otherwise.

The suit alleges negligence on the part of the defendants for failure to provide a safe building exit free from foreign substances, failure to properly maintain the exit’s cleanliness, and failure to adequately inspect the premises.

Crawford seeks damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs, from the two-count suit.
