Woman Critically Injured In Accident Near Charlotte

A crash on the morning of July 30 near Charlotte in which one woman suffered critical personal injuries is under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews were summoned to the scene on Interstate 85 near Graham Street shortly after 7:30 a.m. after a collision between a tractor trailer and a car.

The NCHP said the woman, who was traveling in a small passenger car, ran off the right shoulder and collided with a barrier wall. The impact caused her vehicle to travel back onto I-85, where it hit the wheels on the trailer of the tractor-trailer at an angle.

Charlotte firefighters say it took nearly 14 minutes to extract the woman from her vehicle after she had become entrapped. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with injuries that were considered to be life-threatening.
