Woman Critically Injured By Neighbor's Bulldog

A woman who was attacked by an American bulldog owned by a neighbor on November 12 was listed in critical condition on November 13 from the personal injuries she suffered.

At about 6 p.m. on the day of the incident, 41-year-old Karen Stewart was mauled and dragged by the bulldog while out for a walk on a dirt road serving as a driveway connecting three different LaGrange, Maine residences. Police said her injuries were considered to be life-threatening.

Maine State Trooper Barry Meserve said that Stewart was unable to talk and they couldn’t determine why the attack occurred.

Meserve noted that the dog was slightly larger than a typical bulldog and is approximately 70-80 pounds. He said it was unrestrained.

The dog’s owner, 28-year-old Alden Bemis, was charged with keeping a dangerous dog. He said that further charges could follow after the investigation is concluded.
