A woman has filed a personal injury suit against the two owners of her rental house after she allegedly fell through the steps and landed in the basement.
According to the suit Heather Harris filed in Illinois’ Madison County Circuit Court on May 7, she was walking down the stairs to the basement at the rental property on May 11, 2007 when the stairs collapsed.
Harris said that the stairway collapse caused her to fall to the basement floor and suffer permanent injuries “that have affected her daily life.”
Harris claims that in addition to the injuries, the fall also caused her to experience pain and suffering and incur medical costs.
The suit alleges negligence on the part of Palmer and Carl Jason, the house’s owners, for failure to provide proper maintenance to the basement stairs.
Harris seeks damages of more than $100,000, plus costs, from the two-count suit.
