Wilmington Apartment Fire Kills One, Injures Four

One person has died and four others have suffered personal injuries after an early morning fire at an apartment complex in Wilmington.

The fire began at approximately 3 a.m. on January 2 at Cypress Pointe Apartment Homes, a complex located near the campus of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

Authorities have not released the name of the deceased or the conditions of the four people who required hospitalization.

It is currently unclear if any students were involved. Spring classes begin January 4.

Four apartments were destroyed in the fire and all 16 units in the building were damaged. Firefighters took 30 minutes to get the blaze under control.
