A six month old infant from Kansas died in August 2008 from strangulation after getting her neck caught between the bars of a bassinet sold at Walmart. The bassinet was manufactured by Simplicity, Inc. of Reading, Pennsylvania. The plaintiff contends that the bassinet was "defective and unreasonably dangerous" due to the opening between the bars being too wide, allowing an infant to be trapped. The complaint alleges Walmart is responsible for the actions of the China Company who assemble the product. It also alleges that Walmart and it’s manufacture, Simplicity, were aware of a separate incident that happened in September 2007 when an infant in Missouri also died from a similar incident and did not remove the item from the market. Walmart issued a recall and has removed the item from it’s website.
