Wallace Motorcycle Crash Claims Husband And Wife

On April 9, a husband and wife from Willard suffered fatal personal injuries in an accident as they were riding their motorcycle on N.C. 41 in Wallace.

According to reports from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, 48-year-old Joey Elston Kea and 52-year-old Ammie Delois Kea were westbound at around 9 p.m. when a pickup truck failed to yield for them and collided with them.

The report said that both were wearing their helmets, but died in the crash.

The NCHP said the truck’s driver, Roseboro resident Roberto Ortuno Cruz, was charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to yield the right of way.

According to troopers, Cruz was turning left onto N.C. 41 in his 2002 GMC pickup truck and failed to yield to the motorcycle. Neither Cruz nor the six passengers in his vehicle suffered injuries in the wreck.

The Keas were ejected from their motorcycle.
