Union County Train Wreck Kills One and Injures Three

 

Two trains collided in the Mineral Springs community of Union County killing a crew member and injuring three others.

 

The victim was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Union County where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His name was not released.

 

According to Fire Chief Ronald Fowler, a second crew member was flown to Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. His condition was listed as serious.

 

Two other crew members also received injuries.

 It has been reported that the crew member flown to Carolina Medicalmin Charlotte has died.

In the collision a dozen or more cars were derailed. Some of the cars were transporting cooking oil that ignited a big fire. The fire was still burning on Tuesday.

 Homes near the track were forced to evacuate and traffic was detour

One train had 12 freight cars and was traveling from Atlanta to Charlotte. The other had nine freight cars and was heading to Hamlet from New Orleans.
