Two-Year-Old Sent To Hospital After Dog Attack

A 2-year-old girl from Long Beach, California required hospitalization for the personal injuries she suffered when she was attacked by her family’s cocker spaniel on March 16.

According to paramedics from the Long Beach Fire Department, they responded to a call of a girl being bitten on the face and suffering lacerations at approximately 11:30 p.m. on the day of the incident.

Long Beach Animal Control also went to the home to take the dog into custody.

Typical procedure calls for the dog to be held for a 10-day period to check for signs of rabies. If no rabies signs are detected, the dog could be returned to the owner.

However, Animal Control officials say that the mother was “pretty upset” and did not request the dog’s return.

What prompted the attack is unknown.
