Two Injured In Collision Involving Cement Truck
On July 2, two people sustained personal injuries when a car was struck by a truck carrying 70,000 pounds of cement in Bunnlevel.
According to Trooper Robert Mellott, driver of the truck, 38-year-old Linden resident Henry Hart, failed to stop and rear-ended a 1999 Toyota driven by Chapel Hill resident William Paul Hawkinson.
According to Mellott, Hawkinson was trying to turn right off of U.S. 401 when the accident occurred. He said Hart would be charged with driving too fast, but it appears he may have been distracted.
Hart swerved sharply in an attempt to avoid a collision, but the truck overturned after striking the Toyota.
Both drivers received transport to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn.
