Two North Carolina women suffered fatal personal injuries on U.S. Highway 220 in Franklin County, Virginia after the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and collided with a concrete wall early on the morning of February 12, according to Virginia State Police.

St. Rob Carpentieri of the state police said that 54-year-old Mary McKethan Harper was driving a vehicle that ran off the northbound side of U.S. 220 and struck a concrete wall around 3:15 a.m.

Carpentieri said that two passengers in Harper’s vehicle, 49-year-old Bridget Easley Russell and 54-year-old Sheila-Maye Dozier died in the collision. Dozier was in the back seat and not wearing a seat belt.

Harper received transport to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening and was charged with reckless driving. Carpentieri said that all three women are Fayetteville residents.

The crash remains under investigation.
