Two Crashes Injure Seven Near Clayton Exit On I-40

Traffic was temporarily slowed in both directions on Interstate 40 near Exit 312 to Clayton due to two accidents that occurred within 80 minutes of each other at around noon on July 5. A total of seven people suffered personal injuries in the two crashes combined.

Johnston County Emergency Care Supervisor Jason Thompson said that the first accident took place in the eastbound lane and involved a vehicle running off the road around 11:45 a.m. He said one passenger received transport to WakeMed’s trauma center in Raleigh, but his condition was not immediately made available.

Thompson said the second accident took place shortly before 12:30 p.m. in the westbound lane and involved three vehicles colliding. He said that six people sustained injuries in that crash, none of which were considered to be in serious condition. He said all six received transport to WakeMed.
