On the night of April 7, 60-year-old James Johnson was arrested by Kannapolis police in connection to a hit-and-run accident that caused a pair of 2-year-old boys to suffer personal injuries. The accident occurred at around 9:30 that morning.
According to Kannapolis police, Kyle Graham and Weston Edwards were riding a go-kart on Debbie Street, when the go-kart was struck by a silver Ford minivan near the middle of the road. The van did not stop after the collision.
The boys received transport to Carolinas Medical Center, where Graham was listed in fair condition and Edwards was listed in critical condition.
According to Kannapolis police Sgt. Terry Spry, Johnson was found that afternoon during a neighborhood Kansas. The van he was driving was discovered on Kingston Drive, less than a mile from the scene of the accident.
Police charged Johnson with felony hit-and-run and driving without a license.
According to Kannapolis police, riding go-karts on city streets is illegal. It is unknown if the children’s parents will face any charges until the case goes before the district attorney.
