North Carolina state troopers said that a man and woman were both nude when they suffered personal injuries after their motorcycle crashed on the morning of June 11 in Onslow County. The man is a Marine gunnery sergeant at Camp Lejeune.
According to troopers, Gunnery Sergeant Steven Sheals was eastbound on Meadowview Road when his motorcycle ran off the road to the right. He and his passenger, Jennifer Smith, were both ejected from the bike. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that Smith suffered a broken arm and leg in the accident, but was able to crawl a third of a mile for help.
Troopers said that at the time of the accident, Sheals and Smith were both in the nude. Alcohol is considered to have been a factor.
Police charged Sheals with DWI, reckless driving, driving without a license, driving on a revoked license, expired inspection, no insurance, and driving without a helmet.
Sheals received transport to New Hanover Regional Hospital and was listed in fair condition. Smith received treatment from Onslow Memorial Hospital and was released.
