Tractor-Trailer In Fatal Collision With Mower Near Fayetteville
A highway worker suffered fatal personal injuries when a tractor-trailer careened into two safety vehicles along Interstate 95 just north of Fayetteville before crushing a tractor that was mowing the median.
According to reports from The Fayetteville Observer, the truck scraped two vehicles that had been parked along the side of the road to warn motorists of a lane closed for worker protection ahead.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol said that truck then rear-ended the mower, killing the worker shortly before noon on October 27.
The driver of the mower, Erwin resident John Glenn McLean, was one of several family members working for a company with a contract to cut grass for the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
The tractor-trailer’s driver, Lehigh Acres, Florida resident Luis Valdes, received hospital transport for treatment.
Trooper Greg Steffens said that the accident remains under investigation.
