Three Injured In Dog Attack

On October 14, three people suffered personal injuries after being attacked by a Bulldog-Boxer mix in Salina, Kansas.

At approximately 5:30 on the day of the incident, police were called to respond to a vicious dog report by a neighbor.

According to 16-year-old Derek Rico, the next-door neighbor, he and a friend heard screams coming from the backyard house at which the attack took place. He went to see what was happening and discovered a girl being mauled by a large dog.

Rico said that he noticed small children nearby, so he retrieved a shovel and struck the dog in the face. The dog then turned on Rico, who jumped a fence to escape and sustained cuts over his eye and on his hand.

Police arrived at the scene and shot the dog with a shotgun, but it did not go down. Animal Control then arrived and shot the dog with a tranquilizer dart, but it still did not go down. An animal control officer finally got close enough to inject it with a tranquilizer and the dog finally went down.

Police say 16-year-old Christina Chapman, 11-year-old Marquita Atkins, and 10-year-old Jasmine Atkins all sustained bite wounds in the attack.
