Teenager Driving Reported Stolen Vehicle Dies During Police Chase

Lorenzo Knights-Mc-White, 16, of Cameron, died Wednesday afternoon during a chase in Harnett County on Buffalo Lakes Road. The vehicle driven by Knights-McWhite had been reported stolen by Fort Bragg officials.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Department issued a release that Knights-McWhite was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A Harnett County deputy, whose name was not released, was attempting to stop a 2004 Jeep Liberty that was traveling at a high rate of speed on N.C. 87 North. The Jeep made a right turn onto Buffalo Lakes Road and the driver lost control less than two miles later.

The Jeep overturned numerous times, throwing Knights-McWhite and a passenger out of the vehicle. The passenger, Jimmy A. Peterson, 16 years-old, of Cameron, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The vehicle had been reported stolen by the Fort Bragg Provost Marshall's office on June 20.

The N.C. Highway patrol is investigating the accident.
