A teenager from Raleigh has been charged with causing a wreck on the evening of November 3 in which a 4-year-old boy in her SUV, among others, suffered personal injuries.

According to the accident report, 17-year-old Wendy Esmeralda Funes-Pineda turned left from Poole Road into the path of an oncoming car on New Hope Road. All five occupants of both vehicles received transport to WakeMed.

Funes-Pineda said to police that she didn’t see the oncoming vehicle.

A passenger in Funes-Pineda’s SUV, 4-year-old Christopher Funes, was listed in critical condition as of November 4.

Funes-Pineda and the driver of the other vehicle, 22-year-old Brittney Kittrell, also sustained serious injuries.

The passengers in Kittrell’s vehicle, 23-month-old Khiren Smith and 18-year-old William Kornegay, sustained less serious injuries. Smith was listed in good condition as of November 4 and Kornegay had been released after treatment.

Police charged Funes-Pineda with driving without a license and unsafe movement.
