Teen Dies and Friend Injured in Accident on Dirt Bike
Dustin Alan Ramsey, 18, of Maxton died after being thrown from his dirt bike Wednesday evening. Ramsey had been transported to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Ramsey and a friend, whose name was not released, were riding together on the dirt bike on Canal Road near Mozart Drive.
The dirt bike, after running off the left side of the road, hit a driveway tile lying across a drainage ditch.
According to N.C. trooper Dial, the dirt bike was thrown into the air. Neither of the teens was wearing helmets.
It was not determined which person was driving the dirt bike.
The injured friend was admitted to Duke Medical Center with serious head injuries.
Ramsay was a recent graduate of Purnell-Swett High School and planned to attend UNC-Pembroke to become a veterinarian.
