Suspect In Fayetteville Police Chase Involving Fatal Crash Surrenders

The suspect in a Fayetteville police chase that left one man dead from the personal injuries he suffered surrendered to authorities on the evening of January 7.

The suspect, 24-year-old Percyful Junior McIntyre is faced with charges of second-degree murder, felony speeding to elude arrest, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, and felony hit-and-run, according to police.

McIntyre is a suspect that took place on the morning of January 7 that began with a woman contacting police to report a suspicious man looking inside vehicles in the Ingleside Drive neighborhood.

A short time later, the woman called police again to notify them that her husband was following the man, who had stolen a silver Ford F-150 truck.

Police attempted to pull the suspect over, but he refused to stop, prompting a chase. Officers say they began to back off the pickup in the Bragg Street area when it nearly collided with several vehicles.

Two officers with marked patrol cars and blue lights flashing blocked the intersection in an attempt to keep other vehicles from being hit. However, a PT Cruiser driven by 43-year-old John Velandra entered the intersection and was struck by the pickup. The suspect then fled the scene.

Velandra was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he later died.
