A suit has been filed seeking $60 million in damages on the behalf of two doctors who suffered fatal personal injuries in a head-on collision in Mississippi.
On October 5, the wrongful death suit was filed against Karen and Stuart Irby on the behalf of Dr. Daniel Mark Pouge and his fiancée, Dr. Lisa Dedousis. On February 11, the couple was killed when a Mercedes Benz driven by Karen Irby collided with their pickup truck head-on. Stuart Irby was a passenger in the Mercedes at the time of the crash.
According to the suit, the collision was the fault of Karen Irby’s negligence, including reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and “driving at a time when she knew she might experience a ‘black out.’”
The suit seeks $10 million in damages and $20 million in punitive damages for each estate.
In May, Karen Irby was indicted on depraved heart murder and aggravated assault because of the doctors’ deaths and aggravated assault for the injuries Stuart Irby suffered. According to the prosecution, evidence shows that she was drunk and traveling at a speed exceeding 100 mph at the time of the crash.
Karen Irby is out on $250,000 bond. Her trial is scheduled to begin on March 29, 2010.
