Suit Filed After DUI Collision

A dram shop suit was filed in East St. Louis by a boy whose parents and sister sustained severe personal injuries in an auto accident a year ago.

According to the suit filed by Dennis Cordevant III in St. Clair County, Illinois Circuit Court on June 3, his parents, Dennis and Frances Cordevant, and sister, Kaylee Cordevant, suffered injuries in a June 3 accident.

The suit alleges that Sandy Ridge patron Michael Byrd caused the accident and that he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. The suit claims the alcohol he consumed was served to him at Sandy Ridge.

The suit, which was brought through Cordevant’s father, says that video footage critical to the prosecution of the case had been destroyed, despite a request from the plaintiff for surveillance camera video to be preserved.

The suit seeks damages for Cordevant’s loss of society of his parents and loss of support of his father in addition to spoliation of evidence.
