WakeMed Hospital officials said on December 9 that a student struck by a vehicle driven by a teacher in front of Fuquay-Varina High School on the morning of December 8 has died of the personal injuries he suffered.

The student, 18-year-old Jorge Chavarria, was walking to the school at about 7 a.m. when he was struck by a car driven by 51-year-old Raleigh resident Robert Ken Lee on North Broad Street.

Chavarria was a junior at the school. Lee is a career and technical education teacher and works with economically disadvantaged students.

The accident remains under investigation.
