Spa Owner Settles Customer's Claim for Burns

The plaintiff, 63-year-old Mr. Michael Woods went to the defendant’s Glamour Nails & Spa, LLC in Conway, South Carolina to get a pedicure. He was taken into a treatment room where he was told to soak his feet in the pedicure tub until the nail technician came. Mr. Woods was left unattended for an extended period of time. By the time the nail technician came in the room, the plaintiff had sustained second-degree burns on both of his feet. Mr. Woods was taken to the emergency room and admitted for treatment.

Mr. Woods alleged that the defendant was negligent in failing to test the water’s temperature before he soaked his feet in it, and also failing to check on him during the delay. The Spa disputed liability and maintained that the plaintiff could have removed his feet at any time during the period of his wait.

Mr. Woods alleged injuries were second-degree burns to both feet and he required hospitalization followed by in-home care. The settlement that was given to Mr. Woods was in the amount of $25,000 on February 16, 2010.
