According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a driver accused of hitting a bicyclist on Youngs Road in Carthage, causing personal injuries, and leaving the scene was charged with felony hit-and-run on October 1.
Court records say that the charge is against 34-year-old Southern Pines resident Bradley Davis Covington.
Covington was accused of driving away after a September 28 collision in which he struck a bicycle ridden by 54-year-old Southern Pines resident Sverre Schiotz.
According to a report filed by Trooper Ben Brewington, both the car and the bike were westbound at approximately 4:30 p.m. when the car struck the bicycle from behind, knocking Schiotz a distance of 32 feet. He received transport to a local hospital for his injuries.
A witness spotted the black Lexus Covington was driving as it was being towed in Southern Pines two days after the accident, on September 30.
