After an elderly Raleigh woman was found to have
wandered from her group home, the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons issued a Silver Alert to help find the woman and return her to the safety of her caretakers. Officials say that Dianna Lynn Davis was reported missing from her care facility on Old State Road and gone for several hours. She cannot take care of herself due to several cognitive impairments including
dementia. The alert was called off after several hours when Davis was located safe at the Durham Rescue Mission. It is not clear if the Silver Alert helped locate the woman or how she ended up at the Mission.
Ten different states around the country use the Silver Alert, a system much like the Amber Alert, which notifies authorities and the public to a
missing senior. Unlike the Amber Alert, the Silver Alert allows caregivers and not just family members the authority to report a missing person.
