Seven people, including two children, in Franklin County were hospitalized for personal injuries following a three-car wreck on the night of March 26, according to North Carolina state troopers.
The NCHP said a man was driving left of center on Bunn Elementary School Road and struck a car containing a woman and her child head-on. A second vehicle, driven by the woman's sister and transporting a passenger and 13-month-old child, was unable to avoid the collision, being struck by the man's car on the driver's side.
Both of the women's vehicles spun off the road.
The man, whose vehicle also had a passenger, was charged with driving while impaired, driving on an expired license, and careless and reckless driving.
All of the occupants of the three vehicles received transport to WakeMed Hospital.
The female driver in the initial collision was pinned in the vehicle by the steering wheel, according to troopers. Her injuries were the most severe and she underwent surgery on the morning of March 27.
The identities of the people involved were not immediately made available.
