Semi-Truck Hits Man Mowing Lawn Then Crashes Into House

On the morning of July 6, an elderly man suffered personal injuries when he was struck by a semi-truck cab, which then crashed into a house, shortly after he finished mowing his lawn along Luby Smith Road in Princeton.

According to North Carolina State Police, 71-year-old William Godwin was partially standing in the road as he was blowing clippings in his yard when a semi-truck driven by Theresa Morgan. Morgan then lost control of the vehicle, veering to the opposite side of the road, knocking down a power pole, and crashing into a house.

Godwin received paramedic transport to Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro, where he was listed in critical condition.

No one was in the house at the time of the crash.

Troopers say that according to an initial investigation, both parties appear negligent because Godwin was in the road, but Morgan had enough time to react.

Troopers say Morgan, an employee of K&E Farms in Princeton, did not suffer any serious injuries.
