S.C. Man Killed In Fiery Crash Near Maxton
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a man from South Carolina died of the personal injuries he suffered on December 7 when his car collided with a tree and caught fire on N.C. 83 near Maxton.
The report filed by Trooper J.T. Locklear said that the crash took place shortly after 4:30 p.m. approximately 3 miles south of Maxton.
At the time of the crash, 30-year-old McColl, South Carolina resident Eric Wayne Stubbs was northbound on N.C. 83 when he ran off the road to the right. He then overcorrected and ran off the road to the left. He overcorrected a second time and ran off the road to the right again before colliding with a tree. His vehicle then caught fire.
The report said that Stubbs was estimated to have been traveling at a rate of speed of 85 mph in a 55 mph zone.
