Sampson County Woman Injured In Collision With Warehouse May Have Blacked Out

On the morning of August 7, 76-year-old Sampson County resident Betty Jernigan required emergency transport to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn for the personal injuries she suffered in a crash in which she ran off the road and collided with the C&D Farms produce warehouse of N.C. 55 east.

According to Newton Grove resident Robbyn Ellender, who said she was driving behind Jernigan, said her Mercury Grand Marquis ran off the road to the left, went down and embankment and collided with the warehouse.

According to Jernigan’s husband, Lawrence Jernigan, she was alert and responsive, but remained in the hospital for a back injury as of August 10. He said his wife told him she had blacked out while behind the wheel.

Dale Lucas of Lucas Produce said that the only damage suffered to the warehouse building besides the hole in the wall was a bench with a broken leg.
