Roanoke Rapids Police Officer Recovering From Shooting
Roanoke Rapids Police Officer Recovering From Shooting
According to Chief of Police Jeff Hinton of Roanoke Rapids Officer John Taylor stopped a green 1997 Geo Prism for following another vehicle too closely. As he was speaking to a female passenger, the male driver shot him in the neck, upper torso and hand.
The incident occurred on Interstate 95 in Halifax County. The vehicle stopped had a Pennsylvania license plate.
The vehicle was located at Halifax Academy south of Roanoke Rapids.
The suspect and his companion were found in an wooded area near the Academy. The female companion was arrested while the shooter, a male, took his life.
Hinton said Taylor's condition was stable after he underwent surgery at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Officer Taylor and his family are outstanding members of their community.
