According to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue, a Raleigh woman suffered fatal personal injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Hodges Road on September 27. The driver fled the scene after the accident.
Sughrue said that officers discovered 21-year-old Whitney Monique Mangum at the scene of the crash near Wake Forest Road at approximately 2:45 a.m. She received transport to WakeMed, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to Sughrue, officers were able to develop information about the vehicle involved in the accident and track it down. The driver, 24-year-old Phylicia Olivia Price, was charged with felony hit-and-run.
Price was taken to Wake County Jail and placed under a $50,000 secured bond.
Sughrue says the case remains under investigation and that investigators plan to meet with the Wake County District Attorney to discuss charges.
