An Illinois woman has filed a product liability suit against Chrysler LLC and Dave Croft Motors of Collinsville, Illinois alleging that she sustained personal injuries by breaking her elbow in June due to an overhead grab bar in a Dodge Ram 1500 ST pickup truck that was loose and insecure.

Shara Nichols alleges that on June 19, the grab bar on her 2004 pickup broke while she was attempting to enter the vehicle, causing her to fall and hit the pavement, according to the suit she filed in the Circuit Court of St. Clair County, Illinois on July 29.

The suit alleges negligence on the part of Chrysler for their sale of a product that defective and unreasonably dangerous. The suit also alleges negligence on the part of Dave Croft Motors, who sold and serviced the truck, for failure to discover that the bar was loose and insecure.

Nichols claims that the injuries she sustained required plates and screws be surgically affixed in her arm due to the severity of the break. She seeks damages in excess of $300,000.

Reggie Nichols, Jr., Shara Nichols’ husband, is a co-plaintiff and seeks damages for loss of consortium.
