Police Still Seeking Van Involved In Fatal Cary Hit-And-Run

Police in Cary continue to search for a beige van involved in a June hit-and-run accident in which a 16-year-old girl died of the personal injuries she suffered.

According to police, the vehicle is either a van or large SUV with a box-shaped rear that likely had some black paint or a scrape mark on the front-left bumper from the collision. According to a spokesman for the Cary police, the department had no information about the whereabouts of the van as of July 21.

On June 22, 16-year-old Kailee Birdsong was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that was hit by the van at the intersection of Green Level to Durham Road and Cary Glen Boulevard, police said. The van then fled the scene.

Police have asked that anyone with information contact 469-4012.

Birdsong’s death led to residents of Cary Park, the neighborhood adjacent to the intersection, mounting a campaign for a traffic light to be installed. On July 9, Cary and state DOT officials announced that a signal would be mounted within 60 days.
