A man from Cary police say fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash in which personal injuries were suffered on May 20 admitted to investigators that he had consumed alcohol and marijuana prior to the crash, according to a search warrant released on May 21.
The warrant said that 19-year-old Daryl Torres waived his rights and told informed police that he was the vehicle’s driver. He was discovered walking about a block away from the site of the crash and had glass shards in his hair and clothing, according to the warrant. Police filed the warrant in order to obtain a blood sample from Torres.
Police charged Torres with felony hit and run and felony possession of a stolen vehicle in connection with the accident, which took place at the intersection of SW Maynard Road and Tanglewood Drive shortly before 4 a.m.
Police say Torres was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero on SW Maynard Road in the direction of Walnut Street when he lost control of the car, which had been reported stolen earlier by the Apex police department.
Investigators say the vehicle overturned multiple times.
A passenger in the vehicle, 17-year-old Apex resident Ja-Lyn Braen Hunt was ejected from the vehicle and received transport to WakeMed in Raleigh with injuries considered to be life-threatening.
