Police Identify Woman Killed In I-40 Hit-And-Run

On February 11, police identified a woman who suffered fatal personal injuries on the previous morning in a hit-and-run on eastbound Interstate 40 in Durham.

The body of 57-year-old Chapel Hill resident Judy Gail Siegel was located by officers on the highway near Exit 276.

According to police, Siegel was driving a Toyota in the right lane when she collided with the side of or a tire on a tractor-trailer in the lane beside here. The impact resulted in her vehicle running off the road to the right and colliding with a guardrail.

Investigators believe Siegel exited her vehicle on the shoulder of the highway and walked into the middle of the road, where multiple vehicles struck her. Police say the first vehicle to hit her left the scene.
