Police in Kansas City, Missouri are reviewing procedures after an innocent bystander suffered personal injuries in an attack by a police dog.
Police said the dog broke away from its handler on the afternoon of April 3 and attacked the 56-year-old woman as she stood in front of her home talking on the telephone. She suffered multiple cuts to her head and buttocks.
According to a report in The Kansas City Star, the 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, named Eros, and its handler were searching for a gun used in a robbery. The woman exited her home and the dog ran toward her, tearing its leash from its handler's hand. Officers managed to pull the dog away from her.
A police spokesman said the incident would be reviewed, but it was clear the 37-year-old officer did not have a good hold on the leash.
