Pedestrian Killed By Drunk Driver

Brendan D. Bass, 21, of Durham was charged with driving while impaired after his vehicle hit and killed Vickie E. Riley, 48 of Durham on Thursday night.

Bass faces additional charges of driving without a license, no insurance and using fictitious tags in connection with the collision killing Vickie Riley.

Also served on Bass was an outstanding warrant from an armed robbery occurring on March 30, 2009.

According to a report, Bass was driving in the left southbound lane on Fayetteville St. when he hit Riley. After hitting Riley, he lost control of the 1998 Oldsmobile Cutlass he was driving and hit a Mercury Mountaineer in the right lane, that then hit a utility pole. The Cutlass jumped a curb, struck a sign, crashed through a chain-link fence & hit a parked car.

Riley was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Bass was being held under a $280,000.00
