
Police in Fayetteville have identified the pedestrian who died of the personal injuries he suffered when he was struck by a Fayetteville police cruiser on Grove Street on August 15 as 55-year-old Jimmy Lee McDougald Jr.
According to a news release, McDougald died shortly after 10:30 p.m. after stepping into the path of the patrol vehicle driven by 23-year-old Officer Phillip Burlingame. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initially the officer’s identity was not released and the identity of the victim had not been established because he had not identification on him.
Burlingame has been a member of the Fayetteville P.D. since June 2008 and has been placed on administrative duty until investigations by the department and the Highway Patrol have concluded.
