Pastors from 21 churches across southern Michigan that were awarded $400,000 last month in a civil lawsuit involving a nationwide scam aimed at black churches. In a default judgment against United Leasing Associates of Brookfield, the Defendants were charged with criminal racketeering and fraud and Wayne County Circuit Judge Prentis Edwards awarded triple damages to the churches under Michigan’s Debt Collection Practice Act. Church leaders were tricked into signing leases for video terminals they thought were free.
